How Age Is Calculated
This calculator uses the most common age system used in western countries — age increases on a person's birthday. For example, someone who has lived 3 years and 11 months is considered 3 years old, turning 4 on their next birthday.
Some cultures count age differently. In some traditional systems, a person is considered 1 year old at birth, and age increases at the new year rather than on their birthday. This calculator uses the standard western system.
When calculating months and days, we count from the exact date to the target date. For example, January 31 to February 28 is counted as 28 days (not one month), since February does not have a 31st day.
